YOUNGSTOWN, OH - John N. Hrynda, 83, of Youngstown’s west side, died early Thursday afternoon, May 17, 2007 at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio after a lengthy illness.
John was born Nov. 23, 1923 in Youngstown, Ohio (Mahoning County) a son of the late Stephen and Mary Kresha Hrynda and was a lifelong area resident.
He attended Chaney High School and was a WWII U.S. Army veteran, serving in Okinawa, Japan, France, Germany, and North Africa from 1943 to 1946.
Mr. Hrynda owned and operated Hrynda Construction Company for over 25 years, building more than 500 homes in the Youngstown area and was known as a skilled craftsman and a superior contractor.
On several occasions he was honored by having homes he built featured in the local Parade of Homes.
Previous to his construction career, John worked as a machinist at Youngstown Welding & Engineering and at General Fireproofing.
He was a member of St. Christine Church, the Ohio Carpenters’ Union Local No. 171, and the Youngstown Home Builders Association.
John enjoyed boating, spending time at his summer home on Lake Erie, and seeing the world with his wife.
John leaves three daughters, Deborah Lee Hrynda-Havran (Geary Havran) of Tampa, Fla. Darlene Marie Hrynda of Lakewood, Ohio, and Bonita Rose Hrynda and her companion Belinda Bean of St. Petersburg, Florida; and a sister, Mary Rose Hrynda of Youngstown, OH.
His wife, Helen Rose Melnick Hrynda, whom he married May 16, 1952, passed away Dec. 18, 1999.
Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 21, and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, OH.
Funeral services will begin on Wednesday, May 23, at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, and continue at 10 a.m. at St. Christine Church.
Interment will follow at the Tod Homestead Cemetery.
