Howard Hoilman, age 85, of Massachusetts Ave, Unicoi, TN went home to be with the Lord, March 24, 2019. He was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a son of the late Andrew and Venia Hoilman. He was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church.

Survivors include; his wife; Minnie Yelton Hoilman, of the home, two sons; David Hoilman (Sue), and Randy Hoilman, all of Unicoi, TN, a special nephew; Maurice Yelton (Kathy), grandchildren; William David Hoilman, Andrew Hoilman, Austin Hoilman (Brittany), Christin Sue Williams (Justin), Alexis and Addison Hoilman, great grandchildren; Dakota and Jacob Hoilman, Chloe Faith Williams, Carmindy Grace Williams, Owen Neal Williams, Maverick Lee-Ray Hoilman, and Axston Tyler Hoilman, and a number of faithful friends.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by: brother; Harry Hoilman, and sister; Blanche Hoilman Yelton.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at 7:00PM in the chapel of Henline - Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Gouge officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until the service time. Interment will be Thursday, March 28, 2019 at 12:00Noon at Green - Young Cemetery.

Paul Duvall

Paul Duvall, age 79, of the White Oak Community, Bakersville, NC passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was the son of the late Eva Duvall and the husband of the late Carlene Duvall who passed away in February of this year. Paul was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member and deacon of the White Oak Baptist Church. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Sue Curtis.

Survivors include two sons: Tom Duvall and wife Kim and Joshlyn "Todd" Duvall all of Bakersville; grandchildren: Tyler and Tommy Duvall and two great grandchildren: Grayson and Skylar Duvall; and his sister, Matt Hall and husband George of Johnson City, TN.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, March 29, 2019 in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home with Pastor Andrew McKinney and Rev. Don Ford officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Wilson Cemetery.

She was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a daughter of the late Oscar and Nora Stewart Phillips. She was a homemaker and a member of Middle District Freewill Baptist Church. Edna enjoyed cooking, gardening, and working in her church.

Survivors include: her daughter: Cherry Huskins (Bill Jr.), of Bakersville, NC, granddaughter; Brandy Dawn Huskins, of Bakersville, NC, grandson; James Brandon Huskins (Cassandra), of Johnson City, TN, one sister; Kathryn Phillips, of Bakersville, NC, great grandchildren; Brayden Charles Huskins and Maci Grace Huskins.

She was preceded in death in addition to her parents by: her husband; Charles Street Jr., son; Charlie Street III, sisters; Dorothy Hoilman, Ruth Hoilman, and Mary Sue Garland, five brothers; Donald Lee, Gene, Arnold, Glenn, and Leonard Phillips.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at 7:00PM in Middle District Freewill Baptist Church with Scott Jenkins and Stephen Miller officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at 11:00AM at Charlie and Frances Street Family Cemetery.

Maggie Rae Young, age 6, of Staggerweed Rd., Bakersville, NC went home to be with the Lord, April 6, 2019. She was a student in kindergarten at Gouge Elementary School. Maggie loved the outdoors, her animals (especially her goats and honeybees), and also enjoyed Volkswagen cars.

Survivors include; her parents; Brannon and Amy Woody Young, of the home, one brother Evan Briggs, of Bakersville, NC, maternal grandparents; Kenneth Woody (Joyce), and John Cole (Katie), all of Bakersville, NC, paternal grandparents; Teresa Young, of Spruce Pine, NC, Mike McKinney, of Bakersville, NC, Greg Young (Carol Ann), of Spruce Pine, NC, great grandparents; Jean Greene, and Florence Woody, of Bakersville, NC, Smith Hughes (Regina), of Green Mountain, NC, aunts; Becky Woody, Erica Young, Shaina Burleson, uncles; Adam Woody, Bryson Young, and Coty Burleson, cousins; Ayden and Mayce Woody, Asher Young, Kendal Parker, and Hunter Burleson.

Maggie was preceded in death by; great grandparents; Ted Woody, Ancle Greene, Charles Ray, and Dora Lou Young.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at 2:00PM in Roan Mountain Baptist Church (Sandy Branch Rd), with Marvin Miller and Kevin Hughes officiating. Interment will follow the service at the family cemetery.

Thersia C. Callahan, 83, of Newland, NC, formerly of Bakersville, NC passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2019 in the Charles A Cannon Jr Memorial Hospital in Linville, NC.

She was the daughter of the late Stancil and Verna Webb Callahan. Thersia was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Peterson; son, Dana Callahan; sister, Linda Callahan; and brothers, Lee, Tommy and Roger Callahan. Thersia is survived by her niece, Lisa Sparks of Bakersville, NC.

Memorial graveside services will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at 3:00 PM in the Bailey Cemetery on John Sparks Road, Bakersville, NC with Rev. Marvin Hensley officiating.

OSCEOLA - Shirley D. Carter, 82, of West Superior Street, Osceola, Indiana, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. She was born on January 20, 1936 in South Bend, Indiana to John H.L. Heckman and Katherine J. (Danzer) Heckman.

On June 25, 1955, in South Bend, Indiana, she married Walter L. Carter, who survives with two children, Stacey (Bill) Dombrowski of Michigan City, Indiana and Kent (Dawn) Carter of Philadelphia, Tennessee.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Katherine, Christopher, Matthew, Keith, Kayleigh, Mariah, and Kelsey along with eleven great-grandchildren; and her brothers and sister, Cloyd ( Lois) Heckman of Lakeville, Indiana, Terry Heckman of South Bend, and Beverly Kelver of Mishawaka.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, and three sisters.

Funeral Services for Shirley will be held on Wednesday, June 13 at 11:00am at Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 North Main Street, Mishawaka, where friends will be received from 3:00pm until 7:00pm on Tuesday. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Center for Hospice Care.

Shirley Carter, 82, of Indianapolis, passed away on February 18, 2019.

She was born on November 24, 1936 in Indianapolis to the late Samuel and Mary Ping.

Shirley was a loving mother and dedicated homemaker. She was a member of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Carter.

Visitation will be Friday, February 22, 2019 in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home from 11:00 to 1:00 pm. Graveside services will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Survivors include her sons, Steve and Roger (Donna) Carter; daughters, Kathy Carter and Carole (Tony) Maddox; brother, Sam Ping; 1 grandchild; 2 great grandchildren.

Don Bosscawen

Delray Beach, FL - On Saturday, June 1, 2019, Don Bosscawen, passed away at the age of 87 in Delray Beach, Florida.
Don was born on March 5, 1932, in Newark, Ohio to Clarence and Helen Bosscawen. He served in the US Air Force before receiving a business degree from Ohio University, Athens, Ohio where he met the love of his life, Claudette Chapel.
They married during college and moved to the Detroit area (Farmington Hills) where Don worked his entire career as an executive at Ford Motor Company.

Don was preceded in death by his father, Clarence, his mother, Helen, and his brothers, Frank, Edand Dale.
He is survived by his wife Claudette, his four children, Lynn (Karl Braun), Greg (Sharon), Missy (Chris Maguire), and Bryan, his sister, Linda, seven grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at the Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home on 168 Morris Ave in Athens, Ohio at 1:00 PM.

Edna K. Robertson, age 90, of the Bandana Community, Bakersville, NC, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2019 in the Brian Center in Spruce Pine, NC. She was the daughter of the late David and Edith Canipe Hall.

Edna was a homemaker who loved gardening, cooking and quilting and she was a member of the Silver Chapel Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husbands: Brown Hoilman and Clyde Robertson; an infant son; 3 sisters: Rosie Hall, Jeannie McBee and Sue Stewart; brothers: Mallie Hall, Buster Hall and D.S. Hall; grandsons: Justin and Jonathon Robertson.

Survivors include her daughter, Pat Randolph (Reggie) of Granite Falls, NC; sons: Ronnie Hoilman (Jean) and Bill Hoilman (Becky) all of Spruce Pine; Ben Robertson (Marcella) of Valdese, NC, Alan Robertson (Sue) of Marion, NC and Chris Robertson (Melinda) of Bakersville; sisters: Anna Lee McKinney of Bakersville and Doris Winters of Spruce Pine; brother, Junior Hall of Spruce Pine; 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 5:30 PM Monday, April 22, 2019 in the Silver Chapel Baptist Church with Revs. Jonothan Thacker, Mark McKinney, and Matthew Grindstaff officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Emma Lee Sparks, age 99, of Cane Creek Rd Bakersville, NC, went home to be with the Lord April 29, 2019. She was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a daughter of the late Zeb and Bertie Wilson Buchanan. She was a member of Bakersville Baptist Church. Emma was a member of many clubs including; Clarissa Community Club, Mitchell County Homemakers Club, and The Women's Auxiliary Bakersville Fire Department (which she founded). She and her husband operated The Bakersville Market for many years. Emma was a great hostess and enjoyed extending hospitality.

Survivors include: one daughter; Janie Hensley (Bob), of Bakersville, NC, one son; Terry Sparks (Jan), of Monroe, NC, two grandchildren; Tammy Sorrell (Bobby), and Rob Hensley (Robin). four great grandchildren; Raven Hensley, Eliza, Sam, and Grace Sorrell, several nieces and nephews, brother in law; Joe Young, and sister in laws; Maxi Buchanan and Maxine Sparks.

She was preceded in death in addition to her parents by her husband; Eli Sparks, sisters; Grace Ellis, Nell Young, and Christine Young, and one brother; Warren Buchanan.

Susie Tipton McKinney, age 83, of South 226 Hwy, Bakersville, NC went home to be with the Lord, April 30, 2019. She was a daughter of the late Burl and Effie Bryant Tipton. Susie was a homemaker and enjoyed farming. She was a member of Vians Valley Presbyterian Church and loved her family and grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening and cooking.

Survivors include: one daughter; Elaine McKinney Wyatt (Kenneth), of Bakersville, NC, two sisters; Mary Vinson, of Bakersville, NC, and Helen Street (Billy), of Ocean Isle, NC, two brothers; Phil Tipton, of Spruce Pine, NC, and Tony Tipton, of Jonesboro, TN, two grandchildren; Wendy Silvers (Harley), and Brittainy Bishop (Toby Sullins), three great grandchildren; Dakota, Ava, and Brinkley Silvers, and one brother in law; Edmond Hughes.

She was preceded in death in addition to her parents by: her husband Elzie McKinney, and a sister Doris Hughes, brother in law; Ron Vinson, and sister in laws; Jean Tipton, and Carol Tipton.

Reverend Jess (JC) Sheets, age 74, of Greasy Creek Rd., Bakersville NC, went home to be with the Lord, May 3, 2019. He was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a son of the late Ike and Rosa Frye Sheets.

He was a minister and pastor for over 40 years at many churches in North Carolina and Tennessee. His first message was July 24, 1977. His last pastorate was at Limestone Cove Freewill Baptist Church in Unicoi, TN. He was a member of: Roans Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, Jacks Creek Freewill Baptist Ministers Association, and Bakersville Masonic Lodge #357 AF&AM.

Survivors include: his wife Betty Edna Sheets, of the home, three daughters; Lisa Sheets, of Elizabethton, TN, Dottie Parker, of Spruce Pine, NC, and Sandra Tipton (Rusty), of Bakersville, NC, three sisters; Martha B. Phillips, of Bakersville, NC, Betty Lingerfelt, of Bakersville, NC, and Margaret Wise, of Spruce Pine, NC, five grandchildren; Tony Parker, Tara Hansen, Jessica Martin, Whitney Tipton, and Luke Tipton, one great grandchild; Caleb Hansen, and his faithful companion "Bella".

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by: five brothers and five sisters.

Doris A. Sparks went home to be with the Lord, May 4, 2019. She was a native of Mitchell County, NC, and a daughter of the late Zeb and Emma Buchanan. She was previously employed with Mitchell County Schools. She was a member of Cub Creek Baptist Church. Doris loved horses and trained them for shows, she also was an avid seamstress.

Survivors include: her husband; John Sparks, of the home, one son; Alan Ray Sparks (Cheryl), of Springfield, Georgia, one daughter; Sherry S. Silver (Mark), of Bakersville, NC, two sisters; Fran Buchanan, and Judy Broadway, both of Spruce Pine, NC, three granddaughters; Cigi Sparks, Shalee Sparks, and Makayla Silver, and a special friend; Jewel Collins Evans.

A graveside service will be held Sunday, May 5, 2019 at 4:00PM at Sparks Family Cemetery (Hyde Rd.), with Chris Rathbone and Mark McKinney officiating.

Margaret S. Buchanan, 70, of Bakersville, NC passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Grover and Elvira Cain Greene. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Buchanan, her sister, Rose Marion Spellers and brother, J C Greene. Margaret was a member of Cane Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Crystal Buchanan; her son, Michael "Boomer" Buchanan and wife Buffy; "special daughter", Joanne Phillips Hoilman; granddaughter, Cortney Buchanan McMahan and great grandson, Finley McMahan; several nieces and nephews; special friends: Deborah McKinney, Glenda Trivette, Sandra Buchanan and Barbara Buchanan.

Funeral services will be 2:30 pm Thursday, May 9, 2019 in the Cane Creek Baptist Church with Revs. Skip Weiford, Lonnie McClellan, Tim Fowler and Dustin Sturgill officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 pm until 2:30 pm. Burial will follow in the Cane Creek Cemetery.

Mary Ardena Hastings, 78, of Zanesville, Ohio died Thursday morning, September 29, 2011 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital.
Born November 22, 1932 in Muskingum County, Ohio she was the daughter of the late James H. and Eva E. (Newell) Smith.
Mary was a loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother having been a homemaker raising thirteen children.
Surviving are nine sons, James (Eva) Hastings, Frank (Kathy) Hastings, Roy (Kathy) Hastings, Robert (Virginia) Hastings, Charles (Christine) Hastings, Mike Hastings and Lincoln (Lori) Hastings all of Zanesville, Stanley (Ruth Ann) Hasting and Leonard (Amy) Hastings of Adamsville; two daughters, Mary (Kenny) Reihl and Frances Hastings both of Zanesville; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; a sister, Emma (Robert) Hutton of Valdora, Georgia and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank W. Hastings; a daughter Eva “Sis” Hastings; a son, David Hastings and a brother James Smith.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm Monday, October 3, 2011 at the Dresden,Ohio Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street.

Francis A. Hastings, 52, of Zanesville, Ohio died Wednesday morning, May 8, 2013 at her home after a lengthy illness.
Born February 5, 1961 in Zanesville she was a daughter of the late Frank W. and Mary Ardena (Smith) Hastings.
Ms. Hastings was a former basket weaver for the Longaberger Company.
She was a former volunteer with the American Cancer Society and she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed flower gardening and she loved teddy bears.
Surviving is one daughter, Merissa Ann Hastings of the home; nine brothers and sisters, James (Eva) Hastings of Zanesville, Stanley (Ruth Ann) Hastings of Adamsville, Ohio, Mary (Kenny) Riehl of Zanesville, Leonard Hastings of Adamsville, Roy (Kathy) Hastings of Zanesville, Robert (Jenny) Hastings of Zanesville, Charles (Christine) Hastings of Zanesville, Mike Hastings of Zanesville and Lincoln (Lori) Hastings of Zanesville; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister Eva “Sis” Hastings and a brother David Hastings.

Franklin H. Hastings, 66, of Nutt Street, Zanesville, Ohio began his journey home when the Lord said "Enough come home" at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
Frank was born the first month, the 12th day of 1953, in Zanesville, a son of the late Warren F. and Mary Ardena Smith Hastings.
He was a lifetime resident of Zanesville and a member of Immanuel Church of Downtown. Frank was a retired mechanic and an associate at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of forty eight years, Kathy Jane Marshall Hastings, whom he married May 1, 1971; three daughters, Jennifer (Kenneth) Todd, Sara Hastings, and Mary (Raymond) Ramos; six grandchildren, Justine, Maverick, Journey, Marshall, Savannah, and Memphis; one sister and six brothers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving grandparents, James H, Smith and Eva Newell Smith; two sisters; and three brothers.

Friends and family may call from 6 - 8 PM on Friday, June 14, 2019 and one hour prior to services at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 15, 2019.
He will be laid to rest at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery, Zanesville.

Robert Lee Hastings, 59, of Zanesville, passed away July 18, 2018 at Genesis Emergency Room.
He was born December 17, 1958 in Zanesville, Ohio son of the late Frank Hastings and Mary Smith Hastings. He retired from Zanesville State Nursery.
He is survived by his step-children, Allen Bollinger, Mike Bollinger Jr., Kristy Bollinger, Lisa Buttler and Kathy Bollinger; siblings, Stanley (Ruth Ann) Hastings, Mary (Kenny) Riehl, Leonard Hastings, Roy Hastings, Kathy Bollinger, Charles (Christine) Hastings, Mike Hastings, Lincoln (Lori) Hastings, Frank (Kathy) Hastings.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his siblings, Eva Hastings, Frances Hastings, James Hastings, David Hastings.

Calling hours will be held 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday July 20, 2018 at DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home, where services will take place Saturday July 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.
Cremation will take place after the service.

My grandfather was Kenneth Udell Chafen. My father's name is Kenneth Leo Chafen. my grandma Agnes Rosiere was married to Kenneth Udell Chafen. They had two sons. My father Kenneth and my Uncle Dudley.

I have done the Ancestry.com DNA test.

Frances Gail Buchanan, age 63, of Pine Run Ridge Rd, Spruce Pine, NC, went home to be with the Lord, May 6, 2019. She was a native of Mitchell County, NC and previously employed with Mountain Opportunity Center as a Coordinator. She was a member of McKinney Cove Baptist Church.

Survivors include: her mother; Betty McKinney, two sons; Michael Brian Buchanan (Amy), , and Christopher James Buchanan (Emily Burnette), one grandson; Austin James Buchanan, one brother; Johnny Yelton, niece; Felecia Yelton, she was also guardian for Andrea Greene.

She was preceded in death by: her father; James Yelton, and one brother; Joey Yelton.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 9, 2019 at 7:00PM in the chapel of Henline - Hughes Funeral Home with Todd Ayers and Don Ford officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be Friday, May 10, 2019 at 11:00AM at Green - Young Cemetery
