Elaine Swilley

Elaine Swilley, 69, of El Dorado, AR died February 23, 2008 at the Medical Center of South Arkansas. She was born in El Dorado AR on May 16, 1938, the daughter of Noble Dale Jackson and Flora Ogle Gerdes. Elaine had worked as a clerk for Kroger Food Store for over twenty years and was a member of Beacon Fellowship.

She was preceded in death by her parents and maternal grandmother Mary Ogle.

Surivors include her son Scott Swilley and his wife Myrenda, a daughter Regina Whatley and her husband Todd, all of El Dorado. Three grandsons, Jacob Swilley, Eric Swilley, and Seth Whatley, on granddaughter Madison Whatley, two brothers John Richard Gerdes of Tyler, Texas, Dale Jackson of Moutain Home, Arkansas, two sisters, Mary Beth Kelley of El Dorado, and Vickie Andrews of Little Rock, Arkansas.

Funeral services will be 2:00pm Tuesday February 26, 2008 at Perry’s Funeral Chapels with Reverend Mary Beth Kelley officiating with burial to be in Burns Ebenezer Cemetery.

Lana Sweaney 49 of El Dorado AR died Friday January 3, 2014 at John R Willimanson Hospice House. She was born October 18, 1964 in Leadville, Colorado to the late Sterling Lee Hartwig and Sharon Kay Bryant Hartwig Upchurch. She worked as a clerk for Walmart for over 30 years. She was an active member of “Breast friends” cancer support group. She was a member of Parkers Chapel Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and worked in the nursery. She will be dearly missed by all her friends and her family who was her life

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother; Daniel Hartwig.

Survivors include, a son; Caleb Sweaney of Parkers Chapel, a daughter; Sylvia Johnson ( Brandon) of Parkers Chapel, three brothers; Matt Hartwig, Brett Hartwig (Brenda), Bill Hartwig (Tiffany) two sisters; Janet Riegle (Sean) and Wendi Super (Christian), two grandsons; Kaden, Johnson and Lawson Johnson, an aunt; Joyce Weaver, a god mother; Annette Dumas and family, numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 5-7pm Saturday January 4, 2014 at Perry’s Funeral Chapels. Funeral services will be held at 2pm Sunday January 5, 2014 at Parkers Chapel Baptist Church with Larry Hudson officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be the following, John Strother, Gerald Riggs, Donnie Boothe, Lee Wright Brian Holt, and Dwight Potts. Additional services will be held at Ermerts Funeral Home in Corning, Arkansas with a viewing starting at 1pm on Monday January 6, 2014 and services starting at 2pm. Burial will follow at Black Cemetery in Success, Arkansas.

Jerry Swart, 68, of Strong, Arkansas, died Sunday, September 23, 2012, at the J.R. Williamson Hospice House in El Dorado. Jerry was born on January 18, 1944, to the late Cleo Swart Worsley and Jimmy Swart. He was a devoted member of the El Dorado Seventh-day Adventist Church. A man of varied interests, Jerry enjoyed building and flying R.C. model airplanes and creating new things. He invented and patented an automatic fishhook separator and counter which he sold to three major manufacturing companies. Jerry also wrote and performed songs God gave him, participating in a full gospel music ministry for twelve years. An Army veteran, he enjoyed a 33-year career as the owner-operator of Swart’s Body & Paint Shop in Strong. Jerry was preceded in death by his son Russell and is survived by his wife of 49 years, Linda Swart; his son Jeff Swart of Atlanta, GA; his daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Mark Carr of El Dorado; two granddaughters, Omega and Hannah Carr; his brother, Ray Swart of Harrison, AR; and an untold number of other family and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 26, 6-8p.m. at Perry’s Funeral Chapels in Strong. The funeral will be Thursday, 2p.m., at the El Dorado Seventh-day Adventist Church with Pastor Stephen Vicaro officiating and Pastor Reggie Phillips assisting. Burial will follow at Teel Cemetery. Pallbearers are Braudice Bennett, Mark Carr, John Slater, Jimmy Sullivan, Gary Sweeney, and Kyle Sweeney. Delmar Frachiseur is an honorary pallbearer

Robert (Bob) C. Sumners, Jr., 71, of El Dorado, AR went to be with his heavenly father on June 22, 2011, at the John R. Williamson Hospice House in El Dorado following a lengthy illness.

He was born February 8, 1940, to Robert C. Sumners, Sr. and Mary Louise Sumners in Osceola, AR. Bob retired from the State of Arkansas, having worked as an inspector and also having worked in the restaurant business prior to that. He also served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of El Dorado Missionary Baptist Church and the American Legion. Bob was a funny, loving, caring, and compassionate father, “Pawpaw” and friend. He was also a devoted Razorback fan. Bob was preceded in death by his mother, father, and sister, Mary Bratton Sumners Watson.

Survivors include his wife, Pat L. Sumners; four daughters, Shelle Sumners and her husband, Lee Morgan, of Newtown, Pennsylvania; Stacey Lynch and her husband, Tad, of Houston, Texas; Carrie Sumners, also of Houston, Texas; Tricia Hammons and her husband, Michael, of El Dorado; one stepson, Steven Hill, of Green Bay, Wisconsin; six grandchildren, Dustin Lynch, Nikki Lynch, Lucy Rose Morgan, Jordyn Cottrell, Chase Cottrell and Ethan Hammons; one great grandson, Caden Lynch; brother- and sister-in-law, Alvin and Peggy Turbeville; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.Thursday, June 23, 2011, at Perry’s Funeral Chapels.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2011 at El Dorado Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Hudson and Rev. Nick Barnett officiating. Burial will follow at Smackover Cemetery under the direction of Perry’s Funeral Chapels

Reba Joyce Spry 69 of El Dorado AR died Sunday, April 29 2012 at the John R. Williamson Hospice House.

She was born May 18, 1942 to Utah and Marie Daniels.

Joyce was a devoted woman who deeply loved her family She was the caregiver in her family.It was said that Joyce didn’t ever have much, but she would give you whatever she had. She was funny and had a great sense of humor. She enjoyed doing yard work in her spare time. She was of the Baptist faith and a Christian.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Kenny Daniels

Joyce is survived by her parents of El Dorado, three daughters; Deanie ( Eugene) Walthall of Parkers Chapel, Tab Spry of Old Union, and Donete Sinclair of Old Union. One sister; Glenda ( John) Leach of Yukon, Ok.. A grandson Logan Sinclair, three grandaughters; Courtney Walthall, Lakin Walthall and Morgan Sinclair, two nieces; Tracie (Tommy) Lee and Kristie (Jeff) Ward, a great niece Taylor Rhodes, three great nephews; Tanner Rhodes, Hayden Ward and Hunter Ward, and her three faithful companions Zoey, Kylie and Shadow.

Funeral Services will be at 2:00p.m. Tuesday, May 1 at Perry’s Funeral Chapels with Wayne Sinclair officiating, burial will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery, under the direction of Perry’s Funeral Chapels.

Allie Mae “Pat” Stott, 90, of El Dorado, Arkansas, died Friday, December 26, 2008, at the Oak Ridge Nursing Home. She was born in Mt. Holly, Arkansas, on October 25, 1918, the daughter of Robert Bullard Warren and Annie Ella Peace Warren, Pat was a charter member of Victory Baptist Church were she had taught Sunday School.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband Audrey “Jack” Stott, daughter, Jo Ann Smith, grandson, Gary Don Smith, sister, Augusta Jolley and four brothers, Norris, A. G. , Oscar and Dalton

Survived by a son, Jackie Henry Stott, a granddaughter, Debbie (Tombo) Watts, grandson, Don Smith all of El Dorado, grandson Jeff (Pam) Stott of Independence, Mo., and five great- grandchildren.

Services will be Monday, December 29, 2008, at 2:00 P.M. at Perry’s Funeral Chapels with the Revs. Floyd Taylor and Mark Staples Officiating. Burial will be in Friendship Primative Baptist Cemetery on the Hinson Road.

Delbert O Spriggs (December 23, 1932 - December 11, 2013)

Delbert O. Spriggs 80 of El Dorado AR passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at his home.

He was born December 23, 1932 to George Spriggs and Gertrude Sullivan Griffin Spriggs. Delbert was a huge animal lover. He was a bricklayer and started mixing mortar at the age of 14. He was in the Army and will be greatly missed by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Walter Griffin, a sister Reba Bibby, grandson Jimbo Alphin and granddaughter Mandy Lynn Spriggs.

Survivors include a son Dennis C. Spriggs (Shelia), a daughter Debra A. Spriggs Alphin DeFee (Kenneth), four grandchildren; Alicia McCarty, Jason Alphin, Clay Spriggs, Lindsey Colvin and nine great grandchildren.

Cremation was entrusted to Perry’s Funeral Chapels. No services or visitation is scheduled at this time.

Robert "Buddy" E Scott Sr. (July 20, 1940 - April 25, 2013)

Robert E. “Buddy” Scott Sr., 72 of El Dorado AR left this life Thursday April 25, 2013 at the John R. Williamson Hospice House. He was born July 20, 1940 in El Dorado and is the son of the late Robert Lee Scott Jr and Willie Mae Woolsey Scott. He served in the military and was a member of the SAC division of the United States Airforce before his discharge. He worked as the construction foreman for ArkLa Gas for 27 years before he and his wife Jane owned and operated Lipseys Sandwich Shop. He worked for Milam Construction as a pipefitter later before retiring .

Buddy’s favorite pastime was hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Hollow Beech Hunting Club. He especially loved his family who will dearly miss him.

Preceding him in death is his parents, a sister; Shirley Murphy.

Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years Jane J. Brandon Scott of Caryville Landing, a son Robert Scott of Careyville Landing , a daughter Rhonda Scott Johnson (Tony) of Conway his granddaughter; Jessica Jones also of Conway, numerous nieces and nephews and his two special friends; Dennis DeFee and Art Cameron. He loved them all!

Visitation will be 6-8pm Saturday April 27, 2013 at Perry’s Funeral Chapels. Funeral services will be held 2pm Sunday at Perry Funeral Chapels with Rev. Terry Burke officiating. Burial will be at Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery located on Highway 167 South.

Millard Skinner, 65, of Parkers Chapel, AR left this life on Sunday January 25, 2009 at his home. He was born July 6, 1943 in El ARDorado and is the son of Howard Skinner and Carrie Lee Bradley who preceded him. He served in the United States Army and then continued that service with the Army Reserves for several years after. He retired as assistant chief after serving 20 years with the El Dorado Fire Department. After retiring from the Fire Department , he drove a freight truck for ABF Trucking for 18 years. He was a lifetime member of Parkers Chapel United Methodist Church.

Millard was an easy going family man who loved his family and friends and the simple things in life. He was an avid outdoorsman, whether he was hunting or fishing with his family , chopping wood, or simply working around the house. He prefered being outdoors blending with nature. He constantly supported his family by attending ball games and other activities his family was involved with. He was genuinely interested in his friends lives as well. If you were fortunate to feel this love, then you were his friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Surviving him, is his loving wife Joy Skinner, of Parkers Chapel, his sons; Howard Skinner and wife Christie, and their children Jacob and Jessica, of Parkers Chapel, and Charles Skinner and wife Lexie of San Antonio, Texas, sisters; Earlene "Pat" Galbraith of El Dorado, and Jean Wolfe and husband Bill of El Dorado, and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be 2:00pm Friday January 30, 2009 at Parkers Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Moss officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Methodist Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be his nephews.

Maxine B. Simmons, 89, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday July 15, 2009.

Maxine was born on July 12, 1920 in Strong AR to Elmer and Georgia Black. She was the eldest of five children. Maxine was preceded in death by her father, mother, husband, Odell P. Simmons; and brother, Regnald Black.

Survivors: Son, Rod Simmons; grandson Roderick Simmons; sisters Wallie Purvis and Pansy More; brother, James Black and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will 10 AM Saturday July 18, 2009 at Marrable Hill Chapel with Rev. Sam Shepperson officiating. Burial to follow in Ebenezer Presbyterian Cemetery.

Rita Stewart, 80 of El Dorado AR passed away at the John R. Hospice Williamson House on January 16, 2014. She was born January 24, 1933 to Ben and Mattie Bowen. Rita loved gardening. She was a retired care giver, enjoyed spending time playing with her grandbabies and her Prime Timers at First Baptist Church were she was a member.

Rita is preceded in death by her parents and eight brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her daughter; Terri Onstott of El Dorado, a son; Jimmy Alan Schumacher (Rita) of Conroe, Tx., six grandchildren; Melissa Schumacher, Kurt Schumacher, Megan Schumacher, Elita Tubbs, Stewart Tubbs (Arielle) and Nicole Onstott, five great grandchildren; Simone Schumacher, Cole Tubbs, Easton Smith, Matthew Smith, Johnnie Tubbs and special niece Linda West. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 21 at First Baptist Church with Bro. Brian Trostle officiating. Cremation was entrusted to Perry’s Funeral Chapels.

James C. Stephens 73 of El Dorado AR died Thursday January 16, 2014 at the John R. Williamson Hospice House. He was born June 7, 1940 in El Dorado. He is the son of James Asbury Stephens and Frances Ella Bowen Stephens who preceded him in death.

James was a simple man. He loved the Lord, his family and his animals. He was a member of Union Baptist Church. He was a welder by trade working for various oil companies and later operated his own welding company. He loved being outdoors and working with wood on his sawmill.

He is survived by two sisters; Addie Jane Martin of Panama City Florida and Helen Ruth Amason (Maurice) of Fayetteville,Arkansas several nieces and nephews and his former wife and best friend, Nancy Hash.

Visitation will be held from 2-3pm at Union Baptist Church on Sunday January 19, 2014 with services starting immediately at 3pm with Revs. Brian Williams and Ronnie Robins officiating. Burial will be in Union Baptist Cemetery.

Danny Lee Starnes 52 of El Dorado AR passed away Monday, May 14, 2012 at his home while in the arms of his loving wife.

Danny was a loving father, the best husband and loving “boyfriend” of Samantha and Emily Huddleston. He was a member of First Apostolic Church in Smackover AR and will be greatly missed by all.

He was born October 31, 1959 to Thomas and Joan Starnes.

Danny is preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Short Starnes; a son, Tom Starnes; and brother, Perry Starnes.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 17, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at Perry’s Funeral Chapels. Cremation was entrusted to Perry’s Funeral Chapels.

Bobby Joe Stephens 71 of El Dorado AR passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013.

He was born February 7, 1942 to William Lee and Elaine Smith Stephens.

Bobby worked for Fikes Trucking for30 years and he was known as Cigar Joe over the radio.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one grandson Robert Haner.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years MaryEllen Stephens, three sons; Bobby Stephens, Joe Stephens (Sylvia) and Billy Ray Stephens, two daughters; Tina Burton (Charlie) and Mary Haner, a brother Richard Stephens (Pam), ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren .

Cremation was entrusted to Perry’s Funeral Chapels.

Lewis “Reggie” Reginald Selmon; 69, of El Dorado, AR died Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at the Medical Center of South Arkansas.

Lewis was born November 22, 1941 in El Dorado AR to Lewis “ Red” Monroe Selmon and Faye Dell Welch Selmon. He was of the Assembly of God faith and a retired truck driver for Miller Transport.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son Wesley Selmon and a nephew Russell Hull.

He is survived by his wife; Sue Selmon of El Dorado, son; Bo Selmon of El Dorado, two daughters; Vicki Loomis (Earnie) of Norphlet, Karla Dontje of El Dorado, two brothers; Larry Dale Selmon of Smackover, Roger Selmon (Charlie) of Caladonia; two sisters Pat Yancey ( Gary) of Homer, LA., Donnetta Hull of El Dorado; grandchildren; Jonathan Loomis, Taylor Rogers, Logan Loomis, Dylan Dontje, and Laken Loomis; and aunt; Bobbie Cloud of El Dorado.

Funeral will be 2 PM Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Perry’s Funeral Chapels in El Dorado with Rev. Rex Mc Daniel officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery near Cairo under the direction of Perry’s Funeral Chapels in El Dorado.

James D. Short, 67, of El Dorado AS passed away at his residence on Wednesday November 18, 2009. He was born February 17, 1942 in Hot Springs, Arkansas and is the son of the late James Lindsey Short and Alphalee Whitted Short. He was a United States Army Veteran and a member of the American Legion.

Preceding him in death are his parents, and most recently his wife; Barbara Jo Andrews Short,who passed away December 11, 2008.

James loved woodworking and attending craft shows. He also enjoyed coordinating re-unions and was very active with his 1960 Hot Springs High School graduating classe’s re-unions. He was a “fisherman” and enjoyed fishing, but most of all he loved his family and spending time with his grandson.

Surviving him is his son; Jim Short (Jami), of Little Rock, Arkansas, a daughter; Donna Starnes (Danny), of El Dorado, Arkansas, a brother; Danny A. Short of Tucson, Arizona, and his grandson; Tom Starnes of El Dorado, and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial visitation will be held from 4-6PM on Saturday November 21, 2009 at Perry’s Funeral Chapels. Memorial services will be held at 1PM on November 28, 2009 at Mt. Tabor Church in Hot Spring, Arkansas.

Larry Dale Selmon 60, of El Dorado AR died Tuesday October 23, 2012 at the John R. Williamson Hospice House. He was born October 9, 1952 in Little Rock AR to Lewis Monroe “Red” Selmon and Faye Dell Welch. He worked as a welder for Great Lakes Chemical Plant for over 22 years. He loved riding motorcycles and attending motorcycle rallies. He enjoyed hunting but most of all he loved his family especially his grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are his parents, and a brother, Lewis R. Selmon

Survivors include his sons, Walter “Slack” Selmon (Tanya) of Smackover , Larry “Slick” Selmon of El Dorado, and Jake "Shack" Selmon of Smackover, brother, Roger Allen Selmon (Charlotte) of Caladonia, sisters, Pat Yancy (Gary) of Homer, Louisiana and Donnetta Hull of Cairo, grandchildren, BeYonica Selmon and Jillyann Selmon.

Visitation will be held from 1-2pm Saturday October 27, 2012 at the funeral home. Funeral services will follow at 2pm at Perry’s Funeral Chapels with Rex McDaniels officiating. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery.

Richard “Hot Rod” Shrewsbury , 71, of Strong Arkansas passed away Saturday July 11, 2009 at his residence. He was the only son of Charles and Willie Mae Shrewsbury.

He is survived by his wife Norma Shrewsbury, two sons, Chuck Shrewsbury and Deano Shrewsbury both of Strong Arkansas , and two daughters Kim Gutierrez and her husband Carlos, Amy Welch and her husband Tommy all of El Dorado Arkansas. He will be greatly missed by his five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Graveside Services will be today Sunday July 12, 2009 , at Strong Cemetery with Rev. Don Rothenbush officiating.

Jennings " Jack" Segraves, Sr. (August 17, 1925 - October 27, 2011)

Jennings “Jack” Segraves Sr, 86 of Avon Park, Florida and formerly of El Dorado, Arkansas died Thursday, October 27, 2011 in Avon Park, Florida.

He was born on August 17, 1925 in Lynn, Arkansas to Floyd and Gertha Segraves. After serving in the United States Army during WWII, he moved to El Dorado AR and lived there 30 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Jack is survived by two son Jennings Segraves Jr. and John Segraves; two daughters Jeanne Seagraves and Debbie Brittain; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be Monday, October 31, 2011 at 2PM in Arlington Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Services are under the direction of Perry’s Funeral Chapels in El Dorado.

Willie Mae Woolsey Scott 89, of Careyville, AR died Wednesday, July 21, 2009 at her residence.

She was born October 24, 1919 in Emmett, Arkansas to the daughter of William Robert Woolsey and Maggie Beason Woolsey. She was a charter member of Faith Assembly of God. She worked in Lipsey’s Sandwich Shop for over 22 years and was the manager of Chick-a-Dilly on East Hillsboro when it first opened and was a greeter at Wal Mart Super-Center for 2 years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert Lee Scott Jr., a daughter Shirley Scott Murphy, three sisters; Cordia Love, Cecil Hansen, Mable Cameron, and three brothers; Paul Woolsey, Clarence Woolsey and Harse Woolsey.

She is survived by a son, Robert E. Scott Sr, and his wife Sharon of Careyville. Seven Grandchildren, Ten Great Grandchildren, six Great Great Grandchildren, and One Great Great Great Grandchild.

Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2009 at Perry’s Funeral Chapels in El Dorado with Rev. Terry Burke officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Perry’s Funeral Chapels.
